BIOGRAPHY

Tyler Hanes is an accomplished dancer/singer/actor who grew up in the Atlanta, Georgia, area and has been a performer for most of his life. As a child and teen, he did many commercials, voiceovers, industrials and television shows and held numerous dance titles and scholarships from Dance Masters of America and Dance Educators of America. Tyler was cast by Robert Barnett as the Prince in the Atlanta Ballet's NUTCRACKER, a role he reprised three times and would later go on to appear as guest artist in many other versions and roles of THE NUTCRACKER.

Musical theater became important to Tyler when he was cast in the national tour of THE WILL ROGERS' FOLLIES. Regional productions of THE KING AND I (with Shirley Jones) and CINDERELLA (The Joffrey Ballet) soon followed. He was also cast in several productions of the Atlanta Workshop Players Tour Show, a touring company that performs throughout the southeast. At the age of 14, Tyler became the youngest person to play an adult role in a main stage show at Opryland, USA, where he was featured in I HEAR AMERICA SINGING.

Throughout these busy years, Tyler continued to train at CCCEPA, Cobb County's performing arts magnet school, the Atlanta Ballet, and was twice scholarshipped to Ann Reinking's Broadway Theater Project. At CCCEPA, he appeared in countless productions, including lead roles in FOREVER PLAID (Jinx), MY FAVORITE YEAR (Alan Swan) and JOSEPH AND THE AMAZING TECHNICOLOR DREAMCOAT (Joseph). For his efforts in THE TEMPEST and CHILDREN OF EDEN, Tyler was twice awarded the Best Actor distinction in Georgia's One-Act Competition.

At the age of 17, while training at The Broadway Theater Project, Tyler caught the eye of Ann Reinking, who cast him in the first national tour of FOSSE. Ann started it all for Tyler and Ann, herself, and Gwen Verdon taught him the Fosse choreography. Tyler put his scholarship to Carnegie Mellon University on hold for a year while touring in FOSSE.

Since studying at CMU, Tyler has been fortunate to be cast in several Broadway shows where he has been privileged to work with some amazing performers, directors and producers, including OKLAHOMA!, URBAN COWBOY, THE BOY FROM OZ, THE FROGS, SWEET CHARITY, HAIRSPRAY, and A CHORUS LINE, where he played Larry in the Original Revival Company. He can be heard on the original cast recordings of THE BOY FROM OZ, THE FROGS, SWEET CHARITY and A CHORUS LINE. In fall 2005, Tyler starred as Ren McCormick in a Chicago production of FOOTLOOSE, a role that brought him accolades by Chicago critics and garnered him a prestigious Joseph Jefferson Award nomination for Best Actor in a Musical.

Tyler played the recurring role of Brian on "One Life to Live" and in 2004 filmed his first lead in the independent feature In the Blood. He recently wrapped production on Phoebe in Wonderland (2009) starring Felicity Huffman and Bill Pullman.

A proud member of AEA, Tyler volunteers his time for benefits and causes, while at the same time continuing to train and teach master classes, hoping to share with others his love of the arts.
